Luxembourg CityNewest Review: ... no great expert on this as I got a lift from Brussels airport, a 2-hour drive from Luxembourg City via cheap carrier Baby BMI (very good by the way). Currently no low cost airlines serve Luxembourg City itself somewhat surprisingly. The City does have an International Airport served by most European Countries. If you were on a budget it would be worth looking on the map for the nearest city ... more |

OK I admit that when deciding where to go for my latest weekend jaunt into Europe Luxembourg wasn’t at the top of my list. Most of us know little or nothing about the place – I just knew it was small, stuck in the middle of Western Europe and not that great at football. Because of a work contact in Europe however I ended up doing just this. Anyway seen as I am in my second paragraph I should quickly say that Luxembourg is most certainly worth a trip and that I will explain why. The following information actually refers to Luxembourg City the capital of the country and where we actually stayed rather than the environs which I am sure deserve a review ... Luxembourg might be a small nation wedged quietly in between Belgium, France and Germany, but it is unfairly overlooked most of the time and is very much worth a visit. Passing through this tiny country on the motorway doesn't give you any idea of the treasures on offer in the Mosel Valley, for example - come off at Grevenmacher and follow the road along the river to Remich. You will see some beautiful scenery, the vines snaking up over the hills and little villages perched on the river bank, a mere stone's throw from Germany. These villages are often host to restaurants and vintners, wine growers whose vineyards are open for tasting, and of course for ... Read the complete review

I personally think Luxembourg is a unique city. It's literally a fortress in the city. The city is of two different levels, I mean like a few stories apart. You can be at the upper level to view the beautiful scenery or go down to the bottom level to feel surrounded. It's a really unique feeling. And the best thing is that you don't have to walk from the bottom level right up to the upper level, of course you can opt to do that, it's good exercise! However if you are too lazy like myself, then you will find the public lift very useful and convenient. This was my first encounter of such lift that will take you from one level of the city to the other. It ... Read the complete review

After visiting the Rhine Valley of Germany, I decided to spend a day and night in Luxembourg City - originally just to say I'd been there. However, I now wish I'd spent a long weekend there! After collecting a leaflet from the Luxembourg tourist office, I set about walking the ramparts of the old city. I had always imagined Luxembourg to be full of banks and investment companies - the walk around the ramparts was a revelation. The old city has to be one of Europe's most beautiful capitals. Head up to the "Corniche", labelled the Balcony of Europe. This gives wonderful views of the old houses, church and abbey that line ... Read the complete review

While living in Brussels I decided to visit friends in Stuttgart. So I planned my route to avoid the French autoroute tolls and instead of going to Saarbrücken via Metz I decided to go through Luxembourg. Just before the Belgian/Luxembourg border is the Belgian town of Arlon. This is a great place to visit, as it is the site of a Roman fort town. If you are travelling from Brussels by car: follow the E411 to Namur and Luxembourg. Take the exit to Arlon before reaching the border with the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has borders with France, Belgium and Germany this gives rise to the diverse languages that are spoken and understood here ... Read the complete review
