Mackinac Island

I've been to Mackinac Island 6 times in my capacity as a camp councellor in Northern Michigan and it does become very repetitive. However on my last visit I found a side to the island that I had never seen before. The island has four main attractions 1. The main town which contains Fudge and Sourvenir shops 2. The Grand Hotel 3. The Landscape and Views 4. The Fort and other historic buildings The island does not allow motor vehicles and therefore the horse drwn carriages leave the mark on the roads and it doesn't smell that pleasent, although it isn't too bad. Northern Michigan is one of the most beautiful places in America. Sadly it is also home to one of the most beastly - Mackinac Island! Mackinac Island is a tourist honeypot between the Upper and Lower Penninsula of the State. No motor vehicles are permitted on the island and tourists arrive by boat from Mackinaw City and St Ignace. Expect to pay about £15 for the round trip. There is no camping on the island and most people come and go in one day although you can stay overnight at a hotel or B&B.
