MalaysiaNewest Review: ... and you can live just fine on a budget of $30 a day. The only trouble is many places in Malaysia are predominantly Muslim and thus alcohol carries a very heavy duty tax on sales. Kuala Lumpur is especially expensive (western prices or above) for night out and you can see why this puts a lot of people off. Some states have even banned alcohol completely. Accommodation is steep compared to the ... more |

Malaysia can feel like something of a haven for those who have entered from the countries in Indochina to the north or Indonesia from the south. This is because, unlike these neighbouring countries, Malaysia is a highly developed nation by South-East Asian standards and thus doesn't have the pushy touts and scams you find elsewhere in South-East Asia. For some this is a drawback and you may well hear criticisms suggesting that Malaysia is a little bit boring or sterile due to being so developed. But flick through any guidebook for a few moments and you'll start to realise just how much there is to do there. Malaysia has a bit of everything; ... Read the complete review

Malaysia is a country that is not only diverse in culture, it also offer a diversity of holiday genre. I first visited Malaysia as a child and have since been a frequent visitor to the country for work and holidays. Malaysia is a country consisting of 13 states and 3 federal territories. The country is separated into two regions, West Malaysia which is the main Malaysia Pennisula and East Malaysia which is connected to Brunei and Indonesia. I'm not quite sure how to review such a beautiful country so I'm going to tell you about my experience and hope that you enjoy reading it as much as i enjoyed living it .. I have been to Malaysia four times, my father lives there (in Malacca) with his partner, a Malay citizen, and each time i have loved it more! The last time i went was September 2008, we stayed in Kuala Lumpur for the first 2 nights and we stayed at the infamous Petronas Twin Towers Hotel. All i can say is "wow"!! We walked along the "bridge" between the towers and the view was just amazing!! Kuala Lumpur is a shopping paradise but really, apart from ... Read the complete review

Malaysian people are incredibly hospitable to Tourists and this goes double when you are hitching. Over about a year I hitchhiked over large parts of Malaysia - mostly with another girl. Not only did we never wait long for a lift but almost always the people who picked us up would insist on buying us cans of drink or showing their generousity in some other way. One of them told us that the reason was that the Prime Minister had told them to be nice to tourists. I think also they were curious and that white skin has a bit of glamour associated with it in much of Asia. Whether this is to do with a colonial hangover or Hollywood contribution I don't know. I do ... Read the complete review

I was there for 3 nights, it felt like 2 weeks. Meeting amusing and interesting travellers made it even better. When you see the tropical beauty of the Bounty adverts on TV, that is exactly what I am describing to you now. The Perenthian Islands, in the far north east of malaysia have got to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The lack of contiunual electricity or showers do not matter because this tiny piece of land in the East China Sea (I think) are simply amazing. My journey started with an hour long boat ride, continuing with a nightmarish trek over the smaller island in search of accommodation, unfortunately for me, ... Read the complete review
