Advantages: Great nightlife and beach
Disadvantages: nothing for kids
Malia in Crete lies about 20 miles from the airport of Heraklion and was once an old fishing village. There aare great beaches to go to here argueably the best on the island. There are over 3 miles in total of beaches and there are all kinds of water sports which go on from jet skis to banana boats.
There are hundreds of hotels and apartments to choose from in Malia. I have been here twice both with my friends and with my better half. the first year with my friends we stayed in apartments above a bar which were basic, with a pool but definitely not for younger fam, ilies or anyone wanting a quiet break as obviously music boomed out until after 6am. Which was fine for us as we were never in before then anyway! I believ these apartments were called Stellios apartments.
The second accomodation that we stayed in apartments by thomas Cook gold. These were called Parthenis Palace Apartments. They were further away from the main bar street so that you could have a good nights sleep and enjoy a bit of a chill out during the day. thjese apartments are lovely clean and the pool is gorgeous. I also found the bar to great, quite cheap compared to outside the hotel and in high season it is open 24 hours! Although this hotel is a little further out so there weren't that many big groups of party goers in the bar til 8am!!
At night in Malia , the endless supply of bars, discos and pubs that lead to the sea front, will ensure there's never a dull moment in this resort. Most of the clubs and bars are open until around 4-6am although there are some 24 hour bars as well! There are no huge clubs like in Ibiza but the ones that are there namely banans and Malibu are fantastic and play all kinds of music from dance and RnB to cheesy pop music. In 2006 as well we came across an Indie bar playing everything from Blur and Oasis to the Arctic Monkeys.
The old town in Malia tends to be more quite, there are restaurants and picturesque scenery. I have to be honest I did not spend much time here as my holidays are normally about the pool the beach and then the nightlife! Though i did here from others that there are some fantastic traditional greek tavernas in the old town to visit.
Overall i do think this destination is for younger groups and couples who want to go out and party the night away. I wouldn't recommend it for families however.
Summary: Malia Crete

- 13/09/09 A good review. You will have to be more careful with your spelling, though, because this can spoil an otherwise good review. |
