My visit to Malmö was as a bit of an after thought. I had taken the ferry from Saßnitz in Germany to Trelleborg. A crossing which takes about 4 hours. When I arrived in Trelleborg, I was so unimpressed by the place that I decided to see where the next train out would take me. So it was that I found myself on the way to Malmö.
The outskirts of Malmö are clean and very modern. The city centre itself is based around some beautiful old buildings, which house everything from the Swedish clothing chain, Hennes and Moritz to various insurance companies. It took me a long time to find the tourist information centreand when I got there it was shut. Not to be detered I asked the a passerby what would be worth visiting and I was pointed in the direction of the Malmöhus, scandanavia's oldest remaining Renaissance castle. There I discovered a wide range of museums, ranging from the art museum to the Science and Technology museum. The Malmöhus itself is a truly beautiful building.
As I had a ferry to catch, I didn't have enough time to sample the excellent cuisine. Eating out in Sweden is extraordinarily expensive, so I was glad I missed the chance. Also contrary to popular belief, the Swede are not cold aloof people as I was told before I departed. I found them to be very warm and friendly and their standard of English is very very good.
I would love the chance to go back to the city and to see all the things I missed.
