Advantages: friendly, great scuba diving, cheap, and good general standards, historical and natural

Disadvantages: hilly, lot of older people?- Not ness disadvantage though..., Not enough taxis's

Malta - Well, we all have our own likes and dislikes. Preference is what means we don't all turn up in the same country every year. Our holidays are individual, but our ideas of what each holiday is about might change from place to place and year to year too...

Malta has an abundance of history, and is particular popular with the older generation because of this. The war times stimulate the older folk into enjoying their memories and make the company easy as their is a common interest. So, if the history of the war and Malta getting the George Cross appeal to you, then you will not be disappointed.

Equally the scuba diving is great - there are several interesting wrecks and some great diving sites and schools - and its very reasonable cost wise. The Advance course cost about £95 and a PADI about £175.00 - not bad all in all.

The food is nice, with everything you could want. The weather is hot into October when I went, and it's also pretty cheap too. The average sandwich cost about .60p, soft drink .40p, pint beer £1, 3-course meal about £6 - if that!

The downside might be that the roads are a bit hilly, theres little or no beach, nightlife is generally low-key - although theres still lots going on and the hotels cater well when they say they do, and as I've mentioned the majority of people are older - I'd say the average age was about 60.

I would not recommend for a group of single-sex people. Those wanting a raving time will be a little disappointed - although it's still there anyway.

I would recommend for any age if you want a nice, pleasant stay somewhere without any hassles off the young and rowdy, if you love scuba/snorkelling, or enjoy good historical hols.

The people are naturally comfortable with the English, not humble or unfriendly - just right.

Money is easy to work out at about 10 Lira equal to roughly £15.00.

I have just spent my first week there
- loved it, went to a great Casino, scuba, danced, karaoke'd and met the best people in the world. So even though people tend to love it or hate it - just know it before you go and you will not be disappointed I promise.

I call it the European 'Turkey' because its a bit like that but without the pestering to spend or go in somewhere constantly.

There are some great websites - I found loads just on a 'malta' search.

Happy Travelling.

Hey there, thanks for visiting :) Sounds like you had a good time... although I'm sure you could have found some fun in the St Julians area, esp. on weekends!
