Advantages: Warm, Sunny
Disadvantages: Smelly, Rude
I have been going to Malta for 20 years. You may think that I'm in my 40's or 50's, but I am actually 27. I have read the guidelines on writing a option on that it should be balanced but in the last few years I have felt the grown need for my opinion to be shared. I feel that although the country wishes itself to be thought as a haven for tourist it lacks in a few basic rules. 1. Tourist should not be overcharged. 2. Tourist cannot speak Maltese. It is supposed to be a fact that a very high number of Maltese people can speak Engish was it my misfortune to find the little who couldn't. 3. When a brochure say's air conditioned please be so. It is no good having it installed and not using it(Hotel's take note). 4. Please have proper parking attendants I don't have a problem paying to park my car but it is not to much to ask for a policeman to move on anyone who is not employed as such. 5. Clean toilets are an neccessity not a optional extra. There are much more that can be written but I feel that that is enough for the time being.

- 16/07/02 Sorry to read the comments below. I think maybe I was a bit harsh. But I think maybe I should let you into a little secret. I'm half Maltese. I have family who lives there, but has anyone tried to learn Maltese it is a very hard language just so I can speak it 1 to 2 weeks a year. In the past I have been on great holidays but as I said in my opinion thinks are getting worst.
Just to answer a few points raised below.
Being charged LM1.50 for 3 small bottles of soft drinks is not being ripped off then hey, I'm wrong.
When nearly every broshure tells me that most Maltese speaks English then yes I have to be a bit disappointed when I am told "I do not understand you".
When in Rome. Well if I could have learned Maltese then I would but to learn a Lauguage that 500,000 people speak so I can speak to people on holiday, Does that mean I have to learn Spanish, Italian, German, French... no.
If I sound sacastic sorry. Pleasde keep the comments coming. You never know I may enjoy my next Maltese holiday. |
