There are a lot of very old beautiful churches, as there is a considerable number of Mangalorean Christians , who speak Konkani. the other languages spoken here are Tulu and Kannada. There are some old temples as well, mainly The Kadri Temple dating back to about 1068 A.D, nestling at the foot of the highest hill in Mangalore, The Kadri Hills.. A few years back , I visited India and spent 2 weeks in Mangalore City. It was an experience which I will cherish for a long time to come. I flew in via a domestic flight from Madras to Mangalore airport which cost me about Rs. 1500(approximately 17 pounds). My first memorable experience was getting into a cab to go to Mangalore City which is about an hour's drive. The cab had to be pushed before it could start and the driver was away as happy as can be. What was most interesting was when we stopped at a junction and the engine died. The cab driver then, did something very incredible.
