Advantages: Very Hot, Very Friendly People, Not to Busy

Disadvantages: Seaweed, Some Large Fishies

We have been going to the Caribbean for the previous three years, each time visiting a different island. We wanted to go basically just because of its name, a major plus point was that it was reasonably priced. We went for 2 weeks All-Inclusive staying at the LagunaMar Beach Resort about 15 minutes drive north of Parlamar.

The resort has 9 swimming pools including a wave pool, Olympic sized pool and kiddies pool. The hotels consist of two large concrete accommodation blocks a long way apart! These are not to unattractive to look at and when you are by the pools appear to be quite well hidden by the palm trees.

We went expecting to be jumped by the locals for our bags as we came out of the airport, as we have been on every other Caribbean island we have been to. But in Margarita the outside of the Airport was deserted except for a few coaches and the reps. we were even given free cold drinks as we waited to speak to the rep.

We were given a very warm welcome at the hotel, given more drink while we waited in the queue to check in which went down very quickly and we were soon in our room which was very clean and tidy.

We went in June, knowing this is their rainy season, but with having past experience with the Caribbean?s climate this consists of 5 minutes downpour a day. Fortunately we only got two days where we saw some rain. As it is their rainy season at this time of year it is also their low season and the place was deserted. We went to the nearest pool to our hotel most days; we would have no problems getting a sun lounger at anytime of the day and usually were the only ones in the pool!

Two disappointing things were the beach and the Lagoon (where the water activates were held).
Beach - The beach was full of seaweed, not just a little here and there but mounds of it feet deep. The first few days we were there, this was cleaned up throughout the day but then they just stopped and it just kept pilling up. The sea m
ost of the day was full of it was well so swimming was out of the question!
Lagoon - There is a large bridge over the lagoon, the lagoon is separate from the sea but the sea apparently joins with it a few times through out the year and so the lagoon is like a breading ground for you fish. All the water sports go on in the lagoon like windsurfing, canoeing etc. But as you are walking over the bridge you can see the fish swimming around in the lagoon and after we had see fish over 5feet long swimming around it kind of puts you off windsurfing, not knowing if you are still going to have two lags afterwards!

There were loads of trips on offer from tours of the island to spending a night in the Venezuelan Jungle. We went on the Historical tour of the island, visit to some mangrove swaps and a Sunset Tour. We were going to go on the Jungle trip but had not been warned to bring long trousers, boots, long sleeved top and a hat and probably most importantly at least 90% proof deet!

But we would definitely go back to Margarita and we would go the same hotel as well.
PS - food was excellent!
