Looking back at my reviews I have realised that I have only written one review about France. Before I moved to Poland two years ago I spent two years living and working in France. As usual I didn't stay put in one place. I lived in three regions of France; Midi Pyrenees, Dordogne and Provence/Cote D'Azur - all very interesting and beautiful in ...  Read the complete review

Dirty and smelly but intruiging (732 words)

Marseille is a dirty, smelly city. You can't argue with that. There is graffiti everywhere and the place looks really run down. Almost no matter what town you live in and what you think of it, Marseille will have you returning to it, feeling proud of your clean-looking city. On the way in from the airport on the bus you see graffiti ...  Read the complete review

Marseilles is located on the south east of france, near the mediterranean sea - hosts a beautiful climate - lovely hot weather perfect for achieving a tan. "Ladies and Gentlemen, in a few minutes the train will stop at Marseille. Keep a close eye on your luggage in case of thieves." It was noticeable that this warning had not been considered necessary at Lille, Lyon or any of the other places we had stopped on our way down through France. We kept a close eye on our luggage, but ...  Read the complete review

I went to stay for one week in July with a friend who lives & works in Marseilles. I caught the Euro Star from London Waterloo at 8am in the morning. Being London, the weather was warm as it usually is for England, but I then had no idea for what I was in for! If you have never done the channel tunnel before, it can be a bit daunting. There ...  Read the complete review

MARSEILLE - A GUIDE (1253 words)
by - written on 05/11/01

Having spent 2 weeks in Marseille I feel quite qualified to write this opinion. I feel I have seen more than just the tourist attractions and feel that I know Marseille better than I know other places I’ve wrote opinions on such as Crete. ~~ Well first off – where is it? Er somewhere in the south of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Marseille: A muggers´ paradise? (962 words)

A “reputation for roguishness and danger”, as an older edition of our guidebook states, at first seemed a rather strange claim to make about Marseille. Regrettably, however, crime rates here are among the highest in France, and our own impressions could do nothing but strengthen this view. I had first visited the city two ...  Read the complete review

I thought I’d died and gone to heaven, err Marseilles actually. Plages du Prado, Marseilles Friday 6TH July 2001 Hand on hip and lent against the post was the only man ever fit to wear the number 7 shirt. Ooh ah! Eric Cantona waddling around a sandpit like Deepdale Duck (man in a six foot furry duck ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Marseille: Underrated city (758 words)
by - written on 02/09/01 (Very useful, 130 readings)
Rating:

Despite being the second largest city in France, Marseille is not renowned as a tourist destination, perhaps because it has something of a reputation for violence and racial tension. Having seen the Taxi films and greatly admired the vibrant and colourful city they portrayed, I decided to brave it this summer, reputation notwithstanding. And I ...  Read the complete review
