Lost in the vast Indian Ocean, upon the Northern side of the Tropic of Capricorn lies a tiny, sun-kissed volcanic island that has marked its place among the world's favourite romantic destination. The Republic of Mauritius is legendary for the white beaches, blue lagoons, lush greenery, wide spreads of sugar cane fields, and wonderful flea ...  Read the complete review

Mauritius is a small tropical island in the Indian ocean approximately 5-600 miles off the coast of East Africa and Madagascar and two hours south of the Seychelles. It is of vulcanic origin and is only 50 miles long by 30 miles wide. There are a couple of extinct vulcanos in Mauritius notably Trou aux cerfs at Curepipe which you are ...  Read the complete review

I went to Mauritius on my honeymoon in November 2007 and absolutely loved it. We stayed at the Movenpick Hotel in the South of the Island. When we arrived at the airport we were picked up by someone from the hotel who drove us back. This was a nice touch by the hotel and I think that pretty much all of them on teh island offer this ...  Read the complete review

When I found out that I was going to be going to Mauritius in November 2007, I will admit that I was both excited but also a bit apprehensive. Obviously, we have all seen the pictures of the idyllic Mauritius on the television and in books - white beaches, palm trees and blue seas...this was the part I looked forward to. However, I wasn't looking ...  Read the complete review

I visited Mauritius in August and the first thing i could feel when i stepped off the place was the warm and welcome sunshine and smiling friendly faces of the locals. I instantly felt comfortable in my new surroundings and couldn't wait to explore more of the island. As i was driven to my hotel (Sugar Beach) i saw much of the island, most ...  Read the complete review

I chose to write a review on Mauritius, a peace-loving country after the cruel bombing on Iraq. A sad disaster indeed where we muddle-headed humans (not all, actually) opt to fight in spite of knowing we live in a beautiful world. I feel like going there once again, we had actually been there before in May 2002, another splendid vacation. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mauritius: An Island Paradise (1259 words)

Rating:

What can I say? I was there over New Year and Xmas of last year with 4 friends and had the best time ever. Flying to Mauritius is definitely the most expensive part of the holiday, with flights ranging from £500 in off-peak times, to well over £1000 during the Christmas periods. Flights go from all over the UK; Gatwick, ...  Read the complete review

I was lucky enough (gloat gloat) to get to spend a week in Mauritius for free and it didn't disappoint as an island paradise - but as they say there are two sides to every story. We stayed in the Touessrok hotel in the south which is five-star and in a beautiful location. All the rooms overlook the brochure-picture white sands and ...  Read the complete review

I used to live on the next island down from Mauritius, La Reunion. I spent a month in Mauritius over Christmas and New Year 1999 2000 and since I had mad many Mauritian friends in Reunion I spent a lot of time staying with families and seeing the bits no tourists ever see! I also spent some time at grand baie in tourist resorts. The centre of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nice but overrated (284 words)

I have travelled to Mauritius earlier this year on an all inclusive holiday which sounded very attractive. The country is indeed beautiful, it is full of natural beauty but lurking inside the island is a tremendous amount of poverty and in my view the tourism industry, despite providing the people of Mauritius a lot of money, is exploiting them. ...  Read the complete review

OK, Mauritius is a beautiful tropical Indian Ocean Paradise, but not exactly what you idealistically expect before you go there. Now, when we went there, we had just come from the Seychelles, and I guess I was expecting in to be the same as Mahe. No. We got there, off the plane onto the runway, and there was quite a cold wind blowing, the skies ...  Read the complete review
