Whenever I talk about my favourite Australian city, Sydney, I am always told that Melbourne is a nicer place to visit. Hence, together with a friend, we decided to find out for ourselves about Melbourne. Melbourne is definitely different from Sydney; the city centre is smaller and there is a nostalgic feeling of old world and ... Read the complete review

Melbourne's just a quick plane ride from Sydney and is a great little city for a backpacker to visit. St Kilda offer's beaches and funfairs and a break away from the city, whilst at the city you can visit attractions such as the Sky Observatory which offers panoramic views over the city. Or if you're a soap opera fan you can book a ... Read the complete review

I went to Melbourne not for the Neighbours connection as many people do, but for the gymnastics. The weekend I went saw the 2005 World Championships taking place at the Rod Laver Arena in the city, and I had a ticket to the Women’s All Round Finals on Friday night so decided to make a weekend of it. Melbourne’s a 70 – 90 minute flight from Sydney, ... Read the complete review

Melbourne. The capital city of Victoria, way down south in Australia. I never would have gone there had it not been for my son choosing to marry a Melbourne girl, and us having to fly over 15,000 miles for the wedding! Having tasted it, and the surrounding area just a little, I will definitely be going back, although not for a while yet! ... Read the complete review

After writing a general opinion on my travelling in OZ!, I had a couple of requests to do a more detailed Melbourne guide...so here we go. The first thing to say is that the hostel I stayed in was clean and well equipped and in a wonderful location (The Greenhouse Backpackers on Flinders). You can arrange to do a few trips from this ... Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, is Australia's second city and is home to over 3.5 million people. It has a concentrated city centre with a clutch of gleaming sky scrapers but is resolutely green in its approach to the environment. As well as a thriving inner city scene it also boasts the bohemian suburbs of St. Kilda and Richmond. ... Read the complete review

I spent 4 months here, working, whilst travelling round Oz. Its the best place I went to! The atmosphere is so much more relaxed and friendly compared to Sydney. There is so much to do as well. If you manage to get there in summer you can go to the Australian Open and Grand Prix, there also seems to be festivals nearly every weekend - Moomba was ... Read the complete review

Its about 6 years since I visited Melbourne, but I think the place is soo amazing I would go back any time! So you're going to Austrailia? Melbourne is one of the most diverse cities in the southern hemisphere, and one that defies description and stereotyping... For example, it represents all that is essentially Australian, yet also reflects the better aspects of any cosmopolitan European city. It's inhabitants are among the most laid back ... I've been a visitor to Melbourne more than once over the last ten years and have found the place pretty much the same as any other large sprawl. Melbourne, home of Neighbours. It's a lovely city with trams that run through it. Quite old fashioned. The city is quite laid back, although you can often get pushed and shoved first thing in the morning when people are on their way to work. After the madness, things seem to settle down and chill out, almost ... Read the complete review

Having been warned by my Australian friends not to expect too much of Melbourne on a recent visit, I can safely say it was a most pleasant surprise. I am Sydney-Sider myself and it is difficult to talk about Melbourne in such glowing terms. If you're in Australia, I would always recommend that Sydney be your first stop but Melbourne also has a lot to offer. Although I hear good reports of Mrlbourne I did not like it. I arrived on a wet windy day in January and the sea was very rough. I parked in the suburbs and went in by suburban train. Going in the train was full of graffiti, returning it was full of drunks and I felt quite threatened. The city seems very efficient. In a way it ... Read the complete review

How can I best describe Melbourne? I think it can best be summed up as a city that can have four seasons in one day. The weather here is very changeable in summer; one minute it can be raining (yes they do have rain in Australia, 1/2hr later there is brilliant sunshine. We can then progress to a beautiful English spring day, and later the ... Read the complete review
