For getting around on a weekend city break, the tube (Metro) is great. Its easy to use, not expensive, and will get you to most of the major sights.

In most stations there are easy to use ticket machines which can be selected to give you options in English. However if you are going to use the trains a lot, be aware that the machines may not provide all the ticket options, and it may be worth enquiring at the ticket booth.

There are also several funiculars and a cable car for good views over the city. At the top of the Montjuic funicular there is the olympic pool where the diving took place in front of the great view over the city.
