MilanNewest Review: ... del Duomo There is no way of getting around the fact that there is a natural center in Milan and that is the Piazza del Duomo. The place is dominated by the magnificent cathedral Duomo. The building of the church started in 1386 but was not finished until 1813 when Napoleon had the façade completed. We were a bit disappointed when we first got out of the metro station on the piazza. Instead ... more |

It's official. I'm getting old. I can't do anything about it either. I tried like amending my y'know vocabulary. Innit, and I bought jeans that clearly required the support of a belt but then, this is how crazy I am, I didn't wear a belt. Everyone could see my pants. I quickly realised that my Tim Westwood impression was best kept only to be seen at a specifically themed fancy dress party, turned up the volume on 'The Today Program' on Radio Four because the pips were playing and that means there'll be news, and accepted my daily trundle towards my thirtieth birthday with only the fact that the FTSE had regained a few points to cheer me ... I travelled to Milan in the December of 2001 with my Dad and Brother for a spot of pre Christmas football watching. The mighty Ipswich Town were in the UEFA Cup and had been drawn against Inter Milan, far too good an opportunity for three die-hard fans to miss. As it turns out the football was a disappointment, (Ipswich lost 4-1 for those who are interested), but the city of Milan was a vibrant metropolis that I enjoyed immensely. We booked an all-inclusive package for £399 each that included flights, transfers, 1 night in a 3 star hotel and a ticket for the football. We flew from London Stanstead to Milans Malpensa Airport. Our departure was delayed by a ... Read the complete review

Milan is the capital of the Lombardia region. It is located in the North of Italy, near the Alps in the Pianura Padana. It was built even before the Roman Empire and for this reason the Comune di Milano has been trying to enrich culture, art, music and drama. Not all tourists stop there, in fact many people simply decide to stop in Naples, Rome, Florence and Venice. I do think that Milan is a city to visit, even for a short week-end. It is a city that has something for everyone. There is the Scala for the lovers of classic music. There is the Meazza stadium, mostly known as San Siro for the area it is located in, for the football lovers. There are plenty of ... Read the complete review

On the topo of the highest pinnacle stand a gold plated statue of Maria, the Jesus Christi mother, that the ??milanesi?? call ??Madonnina?? and has been elected protector of the city.
