Modena ... northwest of Bologna. An ancient town, it is the seat of an archbishop, but is now mostly known as "the capital of engines", since the factories of most famous Italian car makers like Ferrari, Bugatti, De Tomaso, Lamborghini, Pagani and Maserati are located there. / Modena is well known in culinary circles for its production of balsamic vinegar. It also is the birthplace of the Panini collectable stickers. Other famous Modenesi are the operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti, born in Modena itself; the Catholic Priest and Senior Exorcist of Vatican Fr. Gabriele Amorth; and the rock singer Vasco Rossi who was born in Zocca, one of the 47 Comuni in the Province of Modena.

Modena is a small Italian city in the Emilia Romagna region of northern of Italy. It’s quite industrious and people there work, work, eat and then work some more, which seem to be typical characteristics of northern Italian cities. I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to go there but if you happen by then it’s nice for a day. It’s not a big tourist zone, so it’s never full of tourists. During July and August – peak season in most places – there are very few people as most leave the city to go on holidays.
