Advantages: good qualitie hotels
Disadvantages: boring place, the sea isn't something special
I just returned from a week in Skanes,the beach resort near Monastir.Monastir-for those who don't know-is a city on the west coast of Tunisia.It is very close to Sousse,the third biggest Tunisian city.
Skanes is not the best choice for holidays.It is a resort full of hotels,in the middle of nowhere.The only thing that is close is the Monastir airport!!!
All of the hotels there are quite similar,completely turistic.Skanes is a 2 hours' drive away from the capital,Tunis,and I can say that if i didn't choose to go for a one-day excursion to Tunis,I would't have realized that I was in Tunisia.Everything in Skanes was so touristic!!!
The beach is clean,but full of jelly-fishes.Nothing special compared to greek beaches,on the other side of the mediterrenean.
The weather is quite hot and humid and there are flies everywhere(how irritating!).
It is like choosing to go to spend a week at a hotel,without realizing that you are in a different country.It is not worth the money(about 500pounds for one week) or the journey(3hour's flight).
Next time I will stick to the beautiful greek islands or to the italian coasts.

you really don't get to benefit from the real sights and sounds of the country if you stay in your hotel.
Tunisia is a wonderful country.

- 29/08/01 I think resorts anywhere you go are the same, you could be anywhere. I went to several places outside the resort I stayed in and found the real Tunisia to be great. |
