Monte CarloNewest Review: ... leaves at about 11:30 pm so you can easily have a night out and return to Nice. Monte Carlo does have hotels, such as the famed Hotel de Paris, but you will need to re-mortgage your house to stay there. So, things to see in Monte Carlo are, first and foremost, the people, their fur coats, elderly rotund gentlemen with their trophy wives, the wannabes and the hangers on. Best place for this is of course outside the casino. Like we did, take a pew outside the Cafe De Paris situated next door and sit and watch for hours. Front row seating is rare, even in October when we went, but even a few rows back it's worthwhile. Cafe de Paris is an i... more |

Monte Carlo is situated in the heart of the French Riviera within the city-state of Monaco close to the French-Italian border. Often regarded as the playground for the rich and famous it is small but far from unassuming. Monte Carlo is exactly what you would imagine it to be: opulent and affluent, ostentatious and brazenly glitzy with everyone wearing their money on their sleeves. People walk the streets of Monte Carlo rarely, but when they do, often to take their poodle for a stroll, it's to be seen. Blacked out windowed BMWs and Ferrari's are commonplace here. There is not all that much to Monte Carlo beyond numerous exclusive shops (every fashion darling ... Read the complete review

In terms of my list of places to see in the world, Monte Carlo never figured very high up. Despite being a dreadful snob and label queen, opulent, extravagant locations have never really appealed to me. That aside, when the offer came in to be whisked away for a five-star weekend, it would have been rude to refuse, don’t you think? A Little Introduction Tucked down the bottom of the Mediterranean lies the principality of Monaco. Despite being absolutely tiny, the place has its own government and is a recognised sovereign state. It’s famous for being a tax haven, home to the Grand Prix and the sort of place you live when you’re a multi-millionaire. ... Read the complete review

If I say Monte Carlo to you what image does it bring to mind? Do you picture Michael Schumacher and chums speeding around the hair-pin bends? Can you see yourself sipping champers with the in-crowd in the Hotel de Paris? Do your eyes turn green with thoughts of THAT harbour - the harbour where if you're yacht is worth less than £5million you would really feel VERY embarrassed. Or do you reminisce about "our Gracie", the beautiful Grace Kelly who fell to her death in the high high roads so near to the Palace that had become her home. No? Still not quite you? Well how about a night of high jinx with the high rollers in the most famous ... Read the complete review

Working as a computer programmer for a well known auction house, I am often called upon to provide IT support for auctions in various different countries, and have been lucky enough to visit Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, Geneva, Paris, and the focus of this opinion – Monte Carlo in Monaco. As you can imagine, I was more than happy to pack up my little travelling case and jet off to Monte Carlo for a weekend auction. My knowledge of the country was shamefully limited – I associated Monte Carlo with the grand prix, tennis, and extremely rich people. I was looking forward to seeing how the other half live, and enjoying a bit of shopping in the ... Read the complete review

Monte Carlo is known as the rich and famous playground. And because of that the standard of the city is lifted up to a certain extend. It's very clean, beautiful and well preserved. The reason I visited Monte Carlo was just to be there and have a feel of what is it like to be in such a city. True enough the moment I left the train station and walk some distance away, I could feel the elegance of the city, with all the private yatchs docking, just like what I see in the movies. So I thought that was all to it, but not... there's a couple of good museums to visit, a palace tour which you can take, a relaxing garden and of course not to mention the Casino! ...
