MontrealNewest Review: ... signs aren't labelled KFC but PFK - Poulet Frit Kentucky. You will also see some signs for hot dog outlets labelled "chien-chaud". Monsieur Montreal tells me Chien-Chaud Victoire on Rue McGill has the best hot dogs in town, though the service can be a bit harsh, so be warned! It might sound that I am sceptical of the Bill, but I have read in places that it has saved the French language in North America, and I consider that a great thing for cultural diversity, even if the laws are a bit draconian. Even in this country we are being invaded with American TV and fashion and American English phrases; at work the signs for centre a... more |

INTRODUCTION Having been to Vancouver for the first time with Ms Larsbaby on holiday, after a week there we went on to the east coast and Montreal. Montreal is a city I know quite well having been there three times before. I have friends there and so it's an obvious destination for me, perhaps less so for those with no connections there. It was Ms Larsbaby's first trip there, and we headed onwards to some other parts of the province of Quebec surrounding Montreal with my old friend Monsieur Montreal. Here is an account of our adventures. ABOUT MONTREAL Montreal is located on the east coast of Canada in the French speaking province of ... Read the complete review

We had planned to attend the Montreal Grand Prix in 2002, and this is something I would really recommend. The most difficult thing is securing a room in the City and although lots of tour operators do packages, often these are not ideal due to indirect flights, less than great hotels and more importantly vastly inflated prices. In our experience, perseverance was the key, and we got a really good deal (see review in the hotel section), but I would recommend trying all the hotel websites you can, even if it means booking a room or rooms before you are sure when the Grand Prix will actually be (as long as you can cancel without penalty). A lot of hotels have waiting ... Read the complete review

Ever tried driving in a foreign country? Not quite understanding the maps and road names? I have at long last managed to experience this-thankfully not alone! I have always thought of being a fairly confident driver (maybe not a great driver though!) and believed that put me in any situation I can get out of it. Well this was the case for me the other day when I had to drive into Montreal for the third time in two days. My friend and I needed to get back to our hostel to pick up our stuff so that we could stay over night elsewhere on route to our next location, Quebec City. We had driven out of Montreal with some ease during peak hour and although there ... Read the complete review

Montreal was the first city my wife and I visited on our tour of Eastern Canada. Our impression was of a large city with many very high rise office buildings, many, many shops and quite a lot of things to do. One of the most impressive buildings is the Notre Dame Basilica (a large church). From the outside it does not look as good. Once you step inside you become overwhelmed by its aura. There are plenty of gold artefacts. The stain-glass windows on one side of the building depict the history of Canada. Part of the building is known as the Wedding Chapel. This is reached by walking through the main part of the building. It is a smaller area. This is ... Read the complete review

Back in February this year I took a two and a half week holiday to Montreal, syaying with a friend. Yes! It was the middle of Winter there - meaning sub-zero temperatures and thick snow but it was well worth it. There is a vast range of things to see and do - more in Summer obviously - and a rich mixture of architecture, cuisine, cultures, everything. My capabilities are limited due to illness so I didn't get to sample the night life but during the day I visited Downtown Montreal - great for shopping and sightseeing, Old Montreal - very touristy but beautiful, the port - again beautiful, Chinatown - for a delicious range of food and sights and we ...
