The town square has some great restaurants and some happening bars, with the Platzhirsch being the best for the young. I was a teacher in the tranquil Murtal village or Murau, which is home one of if not the best Austrian beers, Murauer. There has been a settlement in Murau for 850 years and a brewery for in excess of 500 years. The village is a charming and quiet place, although in winter, with the Frauenalpe 15 minutes away, where skiing is very good and reasonably priced, the place comes alive. In summer it is a great stop off point for people travelling along the Murtal, and is a great place for walking. As well as a reasonably fast road to Unzmarkt and Tamsweg, the village is served by a narrow guage railway, which although not the quickest method of trainsport, is certainly a fun ...
