Oman is probably more conservative than Dubai and females in particular have to be careful how they dress - not too low cut or revealing is the best way to go. Hotels are generally pretty spectacular mostly 4 & 5 star. I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Muscat which was fabulous, excellent facilities and great service. Other popular hotels include The Chedi, Al Bustan Palace, Shangri La and Crowne Plaza, all located beach side and fairly centrally. Eating and drinking tends to revolve round the hotel ... more |

Muscat the capital of Oman is an original, interesting and different place for a holiday. I recently visited Muscat for a week for a bit of relaxing and exploring and I wasn't disappointed. Located in the Middle East bordered by Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen it is the birth place of the Queen of Sheba and the home to the adventurer Sinbad the Sailor. A large country it is very young having gained full independence in 1970, it found oil in the 60's and is a very prosperous nation with only 2.5 million inhabitants, mostly in the cities.
