Mykonos ... tourist destinations in Europe. It belongs to the Cyclades, a group of islands in the Aegean Sea, lying between Tinos, Siros, Paros and Naxos. It spans an area of 86 km² and rises at an elevation of 364 m at its highest point. The island is composed primarily of granite. It has little natural fresh water and relies on the desalination of sea water to meet its needs. There are approximately 6200 inhabitants (2002). The largest town is Mykonos, also known as Chora (i.e. the Town in Greek, a common denomination in Greece when the name of the island itself is the same as the name of the principal town), which lies on the west coast. It is believed that the island was named after a local hero, who is considered an offspring of the god Apollo and was worshipped locally in ancient times.

This is one of the most expensive of the Greek islands, but also one of the nicest. Can be very windy. Mykonos town is a maze of little cobbled streets (To defy the wind) with white washed houses and it is very easy to get lost. Interesting sights are :- the windmills, Paraportiani church (The most photographed in Greece)Little Venice and of course, the Pelicans wich can be seen wandering around the harbour. Some very nice beeches to the south of the island. Day trips are possible to neighboring Islands of Delos, Tinos and Syros.
