MysoreNewest Review: ... Chamundi hills. The just over Dusserah celebrations are the main attraction of Mysore, the festivities go on for 9 days and culminate on Vijaya Dashami and the whole city comes alive on these days with cultural programmes and the final Jamboo sawari when the Godess Chamundi is carried on a Royal Elephant back round the city. There is a zoo which is probably one of the best maintained with a ... more |

Mysore, the princely city of Karnataka(India) is situated at a distance of about 150 kilometers from Bangalore, the Capital of karnataka. Mysore as a city is very well connected by Road , and Rail, and very soon will have an airport of its own.But the greatest advantage this city has is its close proximity to Bangalore which is connected to most parts of India and other major destinations across the globe. The beauty of Mysore is its old world charm, the old rambling houses, the great palaces of the once popular ruling Royal family the Vadayars. The weather is very pleasant all round the year .. There are lots to see here beginning ... Read the complete review

I did stay in MYSORE for a few years. But you have to remember that India is a different place & with a rich culture. Its just 3.5 Hrs journey by train or bus from Bangalore City. Don?t kinda develop a headweight or you won?t enjoy your stay. Try to mix with the locals, a simple namaskar or a Ram Ram will do the job. But be careful ?bout bribes , cos that?s one thing that?s actually bothers tourists but the situation is improving. But you gotta bargain while shopping in the grey market if you do so. Any problem ask a student and he/she will gladly help you out. Be gentle & see to it that you don?t kiss in public or you might have to put up with a few laughs or stares, but ... A consequence of the freewheeling itinerant travel we had embraced? No, just plain incompetence and a failure to realise that Mysore is popular with Indians at Christmas. As we?d arrived early in the morning I?d suggested that we hot foot to the Quality Inn Southern Star, offering, the guide book led us to believe, a modicum of comfort after our travels. (Regular readers may begin to suspect that the dust-encrusted, seasoned backpacker pose I am trying to affect is stretching credulity given ... Read the complete review

Mysore is a much smaller, quainter place that is alive with history. It's in the state of Karnataka and the people speak Kannada (completely different from Hindi). The palatial palace there lies at the town's center and is massive. It mixes a unique blend of islamic, hindu, and European design elements. Spiritual, elegant, whimsical, ornate, and crowded with contrasting elements, it is a suitable representation of India itself. Once a week, they light up the entire grounds of the palace and temples with thousands of light. The women come dressed in colorful silk and cotton saris with matching bangles and garlands of ...
