Advantages: Rich Cultural Heritage, Beautiful Locations, Friendly people, Exotic Value

Disadvantages: Techno-backward, Hot nowadays

I did stay in MYSORE for a few years. But you have to remember that India is a different place & with a rich culture. Its just 3.5 Hrs journey by train or bus from Bangalore City. Don?t kinda develop a headweight or you won?t enjoy your stay. Try to mix with the locals, a simple namaskar or a Ram Ram will do the job. But be careful ?bout bribes , cos that?s one thing that?s actually bothers tourists but the situation is improving. But you gotta bargain while shopping in the grey market if you do so. Any problem ask a student and he/she will gladly help you out. Be gentle & see to it that you don?t kiss in public or you might have to put up with a few laughs or stares, but that?s harmless anyway. Here are the places of visit in Mysore . The prices I?ll mention will be in Indian rupees----

***PLACES TO VISIT***
_______________________

MYSORE PALACE. [5/5]

This is the nearest to the railway station & the Sub-Urban bus stand. Entry fee varies between 15 Rs per head to 20 & cameras are not allowed & sometimes footwear. The palace is a traditional Indian masterpiece with exotic paintings by veteran palace artist Raja Ravi Verma. The royal chambers are filled with costly furniture which cost many thousands of pounds. The royal chariot itself may cost a hundred thousand pounds. There will be a guide to show you around the place, but if you spend some time at some part of the palace and are lost from the group then don?t worry ? Just Follow Others. There is an emporium called CAUVERY EMPORIUM where you can buy articles made of Purest sandalwood in the world, Ivory & stuff which are actually banned by the Indian govt. but Cauvery Emporium is a Govt of India venture so you are licensed to buy such goods only here. You can get get photographs of the palace from the vendors outside the palace.

PALACE OF TIPU SULTAN , Srirangapatnam. [4/5]

This is around 30 Km from the Mysore City , situated in
the town of srirangapatnam. Though most of the stuff has been stolen by the British & beautiful scriptures destroyed. You can still see the gardens and the inside of the palace though not as beautiful as the MYSORE PALACE , its quite an eyeful.

BRINDAVAN GARDENS. [10/5]

The most beautiful tourist favorite than anything else in Mysore. This exquisite and EXTREMELY vast gardens is situated in K.R.S around 25 Km from Mysore city Railway station. A spectacle to see is one of the gatekeepers of the garden who is more than 7ft tall. One gigantic fellow [ Don?t know his name]. The entry costs from Rs 5-15 depending on the tourist season & whether the dam in the garden is full or not. The KRS dam in the gardens is a masterpiece of the late Indian engineer Dr. Visweshwariah. The dam I understand is not built of concrete and cement but with flour, eggs, stone & other ingredients , but the recipe is unknown. But this dam can be said stronger than any dam built of concrete. GREAT INDIAN MAGIC as I would call it. One more tale about Visweshwariah is that he was approached by a foreign nation to design a strategic dam for them , but on a condition that no one must get even a faint idea as to who built it as visweshwariah?s name would not be disclosed by the nation & the payment would be good. But after the dam was built it was noticed that one of the stones placed in a strategic location was symbolical to India , but nothing could be done as disturbing the stone would disturb the entire foundation of the dam. I don?t know how far this is true but if you know which dam it is then please update me about that.

CHAMUNDI TEMPLE. [5/5]

It is a temple dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari Devi situated atop the chamundi hill. The hill itself is visible from any point in mysore. It is really exotic & the route is extremely enjoyable, but be careful at night cos leopards are known to prowl about on the hill at night and rarely during the d
ay. Even if you venture around the hill at any point of time with some company see to it that you make noise in order to scare away Snakes & unfriendly animals.

JAGANMOHAN ART GALLERY. [5/5]

One of the places of tourist value. Contains cultural paintings of exotic value. Must see what the Army Clock does every hour with the chime. Don't forget to take photographs if you are allowed or you can always buy some from authorized vendors.

ST PHILOMENA'S CHURCH. [5/5]

A very beautiful church looks just like a castle in british style. Don't miss it for anything.

NAGARAHOLE NATIONAL PARK. [5/5]

A national park situated 20 km from Mysore city. Contains over a thousand varieties of exotic birds. And the river is infested with Crocs so do be careful if you go for a boat ride.
