Newest Review: ... this is just a rumour! FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD I love seafood, therefore I love Nassau! The local speciality is Conch, those Giant hermit crab type things, although more like whelk’s. Native boys dive in the clear water, about 30 feet deep, and bring you up a Conch. They carve out the beast inside, cook him up for you, and clean the shell out while-U-wait, all for about £5. The names Bond, James Bond! The more astute movie buffs will remember bond driving his car into the clear blue waters of this gorgeous Island. Less than a 10 minute walk from the harbour, where all the cruise liners dock, is a strip of beach about ½ a mile in length, and 50 yards wide (shore to sea). Here you will find many people chilling, in what can only be described as Caribbean style. I personally had a litre of Bacardi, and half a dozen cans of a cola product (sponsorship for hire!) I was lucky enough to win a holiday to the Bahamas a few years ago and would recommend it to anyone. The beaches are beautiful (although can get busy) and the sea crystal clear. There are an awful lot of Americans there - they just pop over the same way we nip over to France. This has had an effect on the food - if you like American - ribs/Steaks/Grits etc you'll be fine if not hunt out the local eateries where they have a lot of seafood. The prices are quite expensive in the normal places but if you hunt out the local stuff it's a lot cheaper. If you book a taxi for the night ask for a stretch limo - it costs the same !
