Advantages: Cultural., Friendly.

Disadvantages: Cluttered.

I stayed near Negombo in March (10 min away) at a place called Waikkal, and one day I visited Negombo along with my partner and a taxi driver.

Sri Lanka as a country has a very diverse range of religions, and Negombo is predominantly Roman Catholic. On almost every street corner there is a RC icon, and plenty of churches.

Negombo is where a lot of the well known hotels are situated, such as Browns Beach, Seashells. The beach is very nice - some may argue the beaches on the south west coast are better, but these were lovely nevertheless.

Negombo town itself is typical of Sri Lanka - lots of hustle and bustle, cluttered shops, friendly faces after your custom. There are a variety of shops, a lot of jewellers, souvenir shops, cafes... even an internet cafe!

To some, Negombo may look "rough" and "dirty" but this is Sri Lanka, not Leamington Spa!! Visit with an open mind and you will enjoy it as a true Sri Lankan experience.
