NepalNewest Review: ... 'laid back' than in neighbouring India. This is why so many backpackers come to Nepal to escape the intensity and insanity in India for a few weeks but end up staying longer than intended. The touts are less pushy, there are no densely populated areas and chaotic cities like in India, and the traffic fumes are substituted in place of clean mountain air. Other than the trekking you have some ... more |

Nepal Most of Nepal is located in the Himalayas. The far southern region along the border with India is about the only place that has any substantial amount of flat land! Obviously the Himalayas are the main draw and they are really the stuff of dreams. They will stay in your memories forever and Nepal is definitely a place you will never ever forget. It is of course home to mount Everest and you can trek to Everest base camp though these days it's a popular trek and the base camp is suffering problems with litter and overcrowding. But Nepal has much more to offer than just trekking and jaw dropping scenary in the highest mountains on ... Read the complete review

In 1981 I was dragged kicking and screaming to live in a country that I had never heard of. I was six years old and the moment I arrived in Nepal, my opinion changed forever - I was hooked. As a six year old the 'scenery' did not hold much interest to me!!! I loved the adventure and the freedom. The Horseriding, the swimming, riding my bike for miles and miles. There was no TV where we lived, so for two years I played and learnt and had the most wonderful innocent childhood. As I have got older the things I remember are different. Things I didn't appreciate then, I now look back on with amazement. The snow capped mountains, the green ... Read the complete review

Namashkar. Welcome to the land of the Gods as they say in Nepal. We landed at Katmandu airport and the first thing that struck to us as being odd was the fact that we had to pay the visa fees in US Dollars - $25.00 for a single entry visa ? and we didn?t even have US Dollars on us! The customs officer insisted we change the local currency we were carrying to US dollars to pay the fees! We felt cheated to say the least, but not for long. Katmandu is a bustling city with a lot of narrow winding streets and each street with a character of it?s own. The city is surrounded by mountains on all sides and looks great in the mornings with mist on the ... Read the complete review

My Sister is currently in Nepal She left on the 1st of February. There are lots of organisations which organise to take students on a Gap year. You go with a group of people but you meet them before and can talk on the phone to them so they are not complete strangers. My sister is currently staying in a school and teaching the Nepalese children English. We have been in contact with her through email. Nepalese currency is in Rubees. 100 rubees = £1 After she has finished teaching she is planning to explore the rest of Nepal.. The capital of Nepal is Katmandu that is were my sister is. Before you go you will need injections so not to ... Read the complete review

This is a super little site, if a bit specialist. A true enthusiast runs it. He squirrels away just about anything to do with Mt.Everest and Nepal into a well laid out and very informative site. There are pages of interesting and sometimes morbid facts about the mountain. Especially worth reading are the sections on Acute Mountain Sickness (altitude sickness). Another very good feature is the television schedule. This lists programmes with content about Everest, it?s a bit US orientated but useful nonetheless. The sections on trekking and visiting Nepal generally are very good and informative. The hotel information appears to be updated ... Read the complete review
