NevadaNewest Review: ... really fast and then shoot your guns. -- highway 375 & area 51 My favorite road in all of Nevada is the 375. Desolate to say the least, it runs for a couple of hundred miles to serve no more than a few hundred people spread out over several small towns and ranches. Totally wild. Renamed the "extraterrestrial highway", it skirts Area 51 - the Nellis Air Force base. This is ... more |

Ahh... Nevada. Media will divert your attention to the gambling and prostitution for which it is well known. However, there is much more to this huge state, but I'll deal with it briefly because no review of Nevada would be complete without talking about the casinos. Nevada is twice the size of England and contains only two large towns. Reno, in the northwest is a small gambling mecca with bright lights, a pretty river and lots of diners. It's bigger sister is better known - Las Vegas is in the southeast and has more casinos than you could ever possibly want to visit! The lights are bright and the water-consumption is heinous. The central strip contains most of the ... Read the complete review

Nevada, which was taken from Mexico at the end of the Mexican/American war, and became a state during the American civil war, is most popular with tourists for Las Vegas, gambling, and many casinos. You will find gambling machines everywhere in the Nevada desert, and many cities focus on gambling. Personally, I hate Nevada, and I consider it one of the ugliest places that I have been to. It's not that I have a problem with the desert, but that I think that the state as a whole is ugly and depressing. The buildings and structures for the most part are dull and uninspired. It is also very hot in Nevada. Nevada is one of the most corrupt, and dangerous states in the ... Read the complete review

One of our fly-drive holidays to California also took in some of Nevada, and after the luxury and comparative lushness of the coast, a trip into Nevada serves to remind you that the whole region of the western US is a desert first. Some of it just happens to be on the coast of a cold ocean. I realise that I am including bits of California and even Arizona in this opinion, but on a fly-drive holiday, it's difficult no to "wander" a bit! Setting out from San Francisco, we headed inland via Sacramento, the state capital of CA (a fact which comes as quite a surprise to a lot of people), staying long enough to visit the Transport Museum - if you think ... Now this is a tricky question when you're in Vegas and frankly bored of big flashy hotels, the constant drone of slot machines and very, very, very, very fat people ahead of you in the queue to a fast food bar (Vegas reminds me of Blackpool with better hotels and less water). I went to Vegas for the third time (with work) and had some time to kill for a few days. Now most people would think "great a few days in Vegas on Expenses!", but I'm an awkward git. So what do you do? There are two possible answers to this depending upon how long you’ve got. If you have a few days and don’t mind driving I would strongly recommend the route I ... If you`re struggling over a place to go this summer, look no further. If you like your hotels big, your food cheap, your entertainment on a grand scale, your gambling 24 hours a day, then Vegas is your place. I recommend you stay at the Stratosphere hotel which is one of the cheaper big hotels just off the strip . It has one of the biggest gaming halls in Vegas and is one of the tallest freestanding buildings in the world, taller than the Eiffel tower ! It has a fantastic revolving gourmet restaurant at the top of the tower and a couple of terrifying white knuckle thrill rides on top of that !!!!!! Definitely not for the fainthearted ! Whilst you`re there, ... Read the complete review
