Advantages: nice buildings

Disadvantages: posh people

Instead of Transiting through JFK I did actually take a 3 day stay here. I was going Orlando-JFK-Manchester all on the same day but I decided to forget the Delta flight from orlando 3 days later and got an american airlines flight 3 days earlier so I would catch the Delta from JFK to MAN and spend 3 days in New York.
So American Airlines Flew me into La Guardia airport which is alot nearer to Manhatten, I hopped on a Normal Public Bus which took us about 30 minutes, I arrived at Central park not realising how big the park was. I just knew the hotel was Astor on the Park so I had a suitcase and a back pack, I was walking through the park to the other side and asking locals, Actually I tried to ask Locals, they all ignored me, Except for a homeless guy who was a decent guy who knew where the hotel was. I realised later that there are people that start chatting from the other side of the street and then start asking for money.
One guy was on crutches and was saying hi how are you, I say i'm fine and then he starts walking over leaving the crutches behind so I start walking a bit faster and he goes back to his crutches, so in effect alot of show.
It was Near Christmas so i had a walk down to a really large Ice Rink on the south of central park but you have to pay to go in to spectate, You do get an aeriel view for free at this nice hot dog, burger van and the prices are not bad. At this point I saw a nice friendly new york couple.
The Hotel was about £50 per night which was great.
You can get to all the landmarks pretty easily by foot such as the empire state building, infact I walked past it because things look different from below.
The Only thing I did pay for was the Cinema to watch "Holiday" as I didn't really do anything else.
On the Return I took a taxi to central station and a bus to JFK which took 1 hour.
I took one look at the Subway steps near the hotel but It did look a bit dodgy so I didnt go on that

Summary: Good Vibe
