TIPS FOR NY I've been to New York three times so far and I'm still in my Twenties, I consider myself to be very fortunate. New York is just the most happening city I've ever been to, the Shops are larger than large, the people can be obnoxious one minute and your best friend the next, the park unbelievable. So here are a few tips I've found on my travels / sightseeing #1 - Dont bother queing for the view from the top of the statue of liberty, you have the same field of view as out of an aircraft window, severly limited. Get a couple of photos from the Pedalstel. Also stay at the back of the boat on the way out to get great views of Manhatten skyline as you leave the dock. #2 - Go on a 3 hour semi-circle cruise with circle line at night, take a video camera to take in that wondeful skyline #3 - Go mid-morning or mid-evening (7pmish) to see empire state building, the queues are always less. #4 - Dont dress up to go shopping, if your wearing designer gear and an assistant sees you he/she'll make a beeline for you, look poor and they leave you alone. This may sound petty but after you tell the twentieth shop assistant that your just browsing it gets mighty annoying. #5 - Use the train system, it IS safe and can be a great laugh trying to work out which train to take to get to a destination #6 - Always stand slightly off the curb when hailing a cab as they sometimes cannot see you on a crowded sidewalk. #7 - For cheaper tickets to the broadway shows get to the TKBooth in times square that morning and queue, possibly discounts of 30 - 40% on shows that evening. #8 - Woodbury park outlet, its not advertised in many places but this is a great place to get designer gear at cheap prices, The greyline bus company runs a coach to the outlet and I would definately recomend this to anyone. #9 - The best way to see manhatten is to walk, it takes approximately three hours
at a leasurely pace to walk from the Battery Park area up to Times square stopping for a coffee on the way ;-), the sights you see are well worth the walk and aching legs the next day. #10 - buy one of the small fold-away maps that you can get in Waterstones and the like, the maps that are about the size of an envelope are ideal to store in your pocket and take out for a quick look, you dont need to be able to read the avenue names so much as see where the avenue leads.. Hope these tips help.
