The smallest American state of Rhode Island only has 3 main towns (Newport Providence and Middletown) but Newport is most definitely my favourite. On our first visit to an American town we usually head straight to the visitor centre which are a mine of information. Unfortunately I was initially put off Newport because their visitor centre is in a run down area on the outskirts of the town. However I’m pleased that we continued on as the town is fascinating.
