NiceNewest Review: ... of any sort to enforce this. The next stop along from Place Massena is the nearest one for Vieux Nice. From here you can head into the alleyways of the old town or through it and out onto Promenade Anglais with it's pebbly beach and harbour view. VIEUX NICE Having managed to grasp neither the intricacies of catching the bus nor the tram, we arrived sweaty and dusty on foot with our hefty ... more |

The sun was blasting down with the tarmac under our feet almost sticking to our flip-flops. The spray from the sea crashed against the rocks on the harbour and The Boyfriend turned to face me. "What did you say?" he asked, lifting his sunglasses above his eyebrows. I hadn't said anything, but I was thinking it. Nice has pretty much everything you could want from a holiday. GETTING AROUND We arrived in early June, so not quite high season, but good enough as far as opening hours and sunshine go. Flying to Nice airport is convenient and cheap; it's around 5km from the town centre, with good bus and taxi links and is a popular destination ... Read the complete review

Note: this is a review of the old town in Nice I visited Nice with my college the other week and had a great time there. It was very hot and sunny and it was perfect for sunbathing on the beach and swimming in the sea. As well as the great weather there is loads to do in and around Nice, and in particular you can visit the old town (or Vieille Nice as it is known there). During the day the old town is very busy with a large food market full of all local produce from fish to bread. There is a large section where you can buy all types of locally caught fish, or you can buy croissants and baguettes from any of the local stores. Of course you can also ... Read the complete review

Nice the fifth largest city of France with a population of 350,000 offers many attractions to its thousands of visitors each year. It makes an admirable hub from which to visit the many interesting towns and villages of the area. The shopping available is both varied and competitive and you are more likely to find a bargain here than in Cannes or St. Tropez. It also offers a fine selection of museums. If you are just seeking somewhere to lie on a beach Nice is not for you, while ok for topping up your tan or checking out the local beach fauna, there is no sand. The beach consists of large smooth pebbles and it is rather like walking on super heated ... Read the complete review

If you're looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the sunshine, stroll the markets or just hang out in a café and eat baguettes, then Nice is as good a place as any. Located on the Cote D'Azur (or French Riviera), Nice is a refreshing change of pace if you've just come from Italy, Barcelona or even Paris. Okay, so it's still rather touristy, but in a relatively laid back, unintrusive sort of way (does that make sense?). The weather is almost always gorgeous, the views spectacular and there are loads of cheap eateries and interesting little markets. There are also scores of art museums as well as a seashell museum (though I confess after ... Read the complete review

It's strange what sticks in your mind. When I think about Nice I remember an evening - quite late - when I was returning to the city following a trip to Monte Carlo. As I drove along the incoming road there were prostitutes at regular intervals. They were ready for business. To advertise themselves they kept opening their coats to reveal their virtually naked bodies to the cars driving past. It was very amusing to watch. Yes it's odd what you remember. I was in Nice staying at the Hotel Sofitel Splendid primarily because it was carnival time and Mardi Gras. It was late February but the weather was warm and mild, very pleasant. My hotel ...
