Advantages: Wonderful

Disadvantages: crowded sometimes

Nikko's one of the only day trips from Tokyo so a lot of business people go. it's not worth more than a day but it is really worth going to. It's a big temple complex including the tombs of some of the shoguns. It has to be seen to be believed, it's incredibly richly (almost gaudily) decorated. Wonderful carvings covered in gold and ground up semi-precious stones on a mainly red background. It's very beautiful. My favourite is the dragon ceiling that roars at you.
