I visited Normandy in July of 1999. I wasn't expecting much - but I was quite surprised with what it had to offer. It was quite peaceful and had various towns which were interesting - most notably Arromanches (for its War Memorial and park) and Bayeux (for the famous tapestry and quaint architecture). I also thought a lot of St Hilaire du Harcouet - a town which I stayed close-by to. I stayed in a large gite in the (very) small village of Cuon. Normandy is a fascinating place. There's so much to do and see. Lots of pretty coastal areas, Deauville is Clacton to the Parisiens. Lots of historical places too. Property is so cheap you'll probably end considering retiring out there, my Dad bought a beautiful old monastry for £35 000, needed lots doing but he's just sold it five years on for £130 000. It's much cheaper her than it is in Paris, although it's only a couple of hours from there to Paris, so you could take a weeks break to Normandy and visit Paris for a day without spending too much on fancy hotels and nosh. ...  Read the complete review

An ideal choice for a family holiday, not too far to travel, and lots to see and do. We spent two weeks in Normandy one year, based in Houlgate with Eurocamp. There is certainly lots to see and do in the area. Bayeaux is a very beautiful little town in its own right, besides the fact that it host the famous tapestry. Then there are the d-day landing beaches and museums, well worth visiting. There are the big towns of Caen and Rouen, and lots of prettier little towns like Liseux. There are also some beautiful seaside towns, Honfleur quite rightly being the most famous of them, but Deaville and Trouville are not far behind. The people of the area are ...  Read the complete review

Normandy is ideal for a touring holiday. The windswept Cote d'Albatre and the Cotentin peninsula have excellent beaches and rewarding coastal drives. The Cotentin peninsula is capped by the attractive port of Cherbourg. Further south is one of the most celebrated sights in France: Mont-St-Michel, a Gothic/Romanesque island crowned with an abbey which doubles its height, is at the end of a crescent-shaped causeway, less than a mile from the mainland. This is an enchanting, truly awe-inspiring place. Even the most hardened atheist will doubt themselves! Visiting here was the highlight of our holiday. The medieval town of Bayeux is a good base. ...  Read the complete review
