NorwayNewest Review: ... to trying to keep costs down. Bergen Bergen is also one of the largest cities in Norway and certainly a great place to visit with lots to see and do; very memorable because of the interesting shop fronts and the market. It is the birth place of composer Edvard Grieg and it is also possible to visit his house in Troldhaugen. We also visited Bergen Museum which displayed many stuffed ... more |

Norway is a beautiful and fascinating country! The fjords of course are absolutely stunning with their waterfalls and the beautiful colours of sky, greenery and wild flowers; it's like another world! We went in August and every city/town we visited was another highlight! Towns/Cities Alesund Our first stop was in Alesund. As it was our first port of call, we were content just to have a stroll around the town and take in the scenery. However, for those who want to discover the town in more depth, there is a fantastic town train which provides a guided tour of the town's top attractions while transporting you to the top of Alska ... We usually spend our main summer holiday in the Mediterranean, although we have visited Florida on a couple of occasions. We like late June, before the school holidays start and enjoy the sun when it's not too hot. June 2005 however, my husband and myself took a different kind of holiday, when we were invited to stay in Norway. Norway is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. All the guidebooks open with similar sentiments and, after ten days spent touring Vestlandet and southern Trondelag, I believe it to be true. Vesterland is the long, thin south-westerly region bordering the North Sea and stretches from Stavanger in the far south-west to ... Read the complete review

After travelling to Bergen on the ferry from Newcastle - nice calm crossing, Important to someone who gets travel sick - my family and I planned to drive north along the west coast of Norway in our motorhome until we reached Nordkapp. This is the most northerly point in Europe and somewhere my husband had always wanted to go. I was rather less enthusiastic, I do like the sun! but was pleasantly surprised. Once out of rainy Bergen, (is it true it always rains there?) we turned left and headed to the fjords. The scenery was absolutely stunning and after the rather wet start the sun appeared and it was HOT! I must admit the temperature did drop whilst driving through the ... Read the complete review

It's sometimes said that you should never achieve your dream - because then the anticipation is gone, and often it's never what you hoped for. It was always my dream to see the Norwegian fjords, and I just returned from a week's cruise, doing just that - and it was everything I hoped for. And more. We'd never heard of the MV Van Gogh, and to be honest, the prices seemed almost too good to be true, but we took a chance and it was the best gamble ever. When we arrived at Harwich, we saw this huge white liner, the ultimate in luxury. "You see that ship there", said the coach driver, "Well, that's not yours - ... Read the complete review

Earlier this year I visited Norway on a whistle stop tour. I am a student with little cash but a great desire to see lots of places so I do what I call "speed tourism" - quick visits to lots of places as fast as possible. There is a certain art to this, which I will probably discuss in another opinion. This means that I can't write a full opinion on this country - but I have a couple of bits of info and thoughts I'd like to share with you all. I arrived in Oslo after a gruelling overnight bus ride. The train station (it was a replacement bus for the train - due to a shortage of drivers or something equally as worrying!) is great - clean, well ... Read the complete review
