OstendNewest Review: ... WE STAYED. Our hotel was The Admiral Hotel on Langestraat, 100 metres from the main promenade (the Albert Promenade) and about a ten minute stroll to the harbour, train station and the tram stop. We didn?t spend much time here, but found it was a perfect base for exploring the area and was just around the corner from the two ... more |

We have just got back from a wonderful trip to Belgium. Our holiday was based in Ostende and before we set off I hadn?t really heard much about it and found getting a guide book on this area very difficult. So I thought I would relate my experiences of the place and what we found to see and do while visiting. We were only there for four days and spent most of the days out and about, but we did have a chance to explore Ostende and to use the local transport frequently. ~~~USEFUL INFO. Ostende is located in an area of Belgium known as West Flanders, not far ... Read the complete review

Ostend. Belgian seaside resort which manages to put to shame our British counterparts. No cheap rock here, or greasy seaside food. Ostend is a resort which is suitable for young and old alike, is clean, modern yet traditional and classy unlike Blackpool or Skegness. In fact it's degrading to Ostend to even mention our British locales. Ostend is well-known to the Brits and has remained popular for many years, without losing its charm or status as one of Europe's finest. Nor does it stay complacent and become the Belgian version of Clacton on Sea. Wherever you walk in Ostend you're likely to find a kiosk selling Mussels! No stale Fish and ... Read the complete review

Ostend is a totally underrated seaside resort that enjoys far better weather than its location suggests: Compared with British towns directly on the North Sea, the conditions are far more conducive to an enjoyable day out at the seaside than you might expect. Ostend and the neighbouring towns boast miles of beautifully smooth, golden beaches that are clean and unspoilt. There are plenty of beach cabins and loads of space to stretch out and enjoy the sun or play an impromptu game of beach football, and on the Ostend promenade you have a wide range of places to eat and drink, most of which offer good quality Belgian food at prices that are not excessive. If you like garden centres -you'll love Floralux.. in fact I'm quite reluctant to tell where this is because I've never seen any other British people there and I'd hate it to be overrun by the masses. A journey 45 minutes form Ostend on rt 33/32 (go round Roeselare) I can get details, brings you to the most amazing garden centre. Amost at the French border it is huge (got bigger in the past 3 years). The entrance is full of bits and pieces, candles, towels, all sorts of things for the garden and home. A real bargain hunters delight. Move on through to the garden pots and ornaments. Prices from 50p to £1,500! Move ... Read the complete review

Ostend is quite a big place, it has a ferry terminal, beach and is littered with hundreds of wonderful restraunts, the speciality being fresh fish and sea food. Having allready been to Brussels, Ostend was a lot cheeper, the town itself is full of lovely shops, a delight for those wishing to buy Belgium Chocolate, perfume and cosmetics are reasonable and you will save money buying tobacco or drink. There is a long seafront with a nice beach but the highlight is the fish market, this is on the sea front, here you can buy fresh fish or seafood, or try the readymade seafood packs,or warm your cockles with a hot fish soup, delicious. The hotels are reasonably ... Read the complete review
