A few months ago I was lucky enough to be taken to California for three weeks by my very lovely, kind and generous boss. (James, I hope you’re reading this!) It was an opportunity of a lifetime for me, but I had worked hard and was told I deserved it. I couldn’t believe my ears; I was off to the US of A! I grabbed my very dodgy passport, not helped by the fact that my eight year old photograph shows me with a very unflattering poodle perm (I was sixteen at the time!) and my name is spelt wrong. I keep meaning to get it changed but it’s one of those things that I will always do tomorrow, along with clearing the crap out ...  Read the complete review

We stayed in Palm Springs on route from Las Vegas to LA. We visited her in June 2000 and it was very hot. We stayed at the Doral Palm Resort which was very nice. These windmills are the modern variety and there are thousands of them, so many in fact that you can go on guided tours of them. There are also guided tours of the stars houses, trouble is most of them ...  Read the complete review

Driving from Phoenix to Palm Springs was an education: there's nothing in between the two places apart from a few small towns and a lot of desert. Palm Springs and the associated resort of Indian Wells is a brilliant place to spend a few days if you want to get away from the big cities close by (like Phoenix, LA or San Diego). It's a cosmopolitan, chic resort, with a high percentage of older retirees - but despite the less-than-thrilling nightlife, it's worth checking out. We stayed at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort in Indian Wells - a beautiful hotel with three pools, two golf courses and a spa/gym. It's also perfectly positioned for ...  Read the complete review
