Advantages: Size, distance, people, diversity, shops, sightseeing

Disadvantages: none

Palma is the capital of Mallorca and is a lovely, friendly, diverse, and beautiful city. There is plenty to do and see for all tastes and budgets.

There is excellent shopping to be had from a large Zara and stores such as Mango and Camper to more upmarket shops such as Balenciagga and Lowe. There are even two El Cortes Ingles stores.

If you don't fancy shopping, there is plenty of sightseeing. The royal palace is worth a look, as is the cathedral where there is often a solitary black swan. There are several great galleries, including Es Baluard museum of modern Spanish art, which features works from Picaso and Miro.

There are countless great restaurants, cafes, and bars. Be sure to go to Abaca, a gorgeous cocktail bar that's easily missed. Cocktails are made with fresh fruit and the surroundings are beautiful.

Palma is suitable for absolutely everybody, I have been going several times a year since the age of 10 with parents, boyfriend, friends, and my daughter since she was 5 weeks old.

Summary: Definitely give it a try!

Palma is a fabulous city. The wooden train goes from here to Soller in the north.
