Pamplona ... kilometres from the town of San Sebastian, and 407 kilometres northeast of Madrid. From the 9th century up to the 12th century, Navarrese country was known as the Kingdom of Pamplona. Iruņea is the Basque name proposed by the Royal Academy of the Basque Language, but the Basque name recognized by the Government of Navarre is Iruņa, "the city". For Basque nationalism, Pamplona is the historical capital of the Basque Country (Euskal Herria in Basque). Pamplona celebrates the feast of San Fermin each July by running bulls though the streets to the bullring, and with bullfights, jai alai matches, fireworks, and singing contests.

Pamplona is the place in Spain famous for bull fight. On the seventh day of the seventh month the town of Pamplona starts its famous festival of San Fermin, the running of the bulls. Ernest Hemmingway made this famous in his book 'The Sun also Rises and now it has become one of the main festivals to see in Europe.
