Advantages: natural beauty, life giving, good clean fun

Disadvantages: its in the mountains in Ecuador, I'm here!

If you are passing through Quito at any stage in your travels, you might like to consider taking a load off with a visit to Papallacta. There are pools of hot mineral water ranging from bath to swimming pool size, all at different temperatures. Set at nearly cloud level in the Andes, you paddle around looking up at the peaks, condor spotting, or if you go at night looking up at the stars. There is now a lodge there where you can stay with its own pools, or two cabins inside that sleep 8. if you can, stay the night and you have all the pools to yourself. mmmm.
To get there you need to go about an hour and a half west of Quito, down through the valley of Tumbaco and up the mountains on the other side, a little way past the paramo (ask the locals for the statue of the virgin) Buses going to Tena in the jungle will drop you right outside, you pick them up at Plaza de Argentina in Quito, cant remember how much but its well cheap. There is an office in Quito where you can book it all, next to Magic Bean, 4th floor. Writing this now, stuck in the office, I would give anything to be back there now. if you're going there, I'm jealous.
