Paraguay ... landlocked country in South America. It lies on both banks of the Paraguay River, bordering Argentina to the south and southwest, Brazil to the east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest, and is located in the very heart of South America. The name "Paraguay" is derived from the Guaraní word pararaguay meaning "from a great river". The "great river" is the Paraná River, which produces the greatest amount of hydroelectric power in the world.

I am not sure why anyone would go to Paraguay - I have friends living there so that was my excuse. It is not that there is anything wrong with the country rather that there are few positive reasons for going. On the plus side I found Paraguayans very friendly and easy to get on with, there is a reasonable network of buses to get around on, although they can get very crowded and for non-vegetarians they have great steaks. The capital Asuncion is quite a pleasnt town but with only a few sights such as the cathedral and the matyrs monument. It is perhaps worth travelling across the bridge to see the Chaco.
