Advantages: Nightlife, Shopping, Tavernas

Disadvantages: Sometimes Busy

I have recently returned from a trip to Parga (last week). Parga is situated on the north west mainland coast of Greece and UK tourism is still very low key. Along with most people I flew into Preveza airport (a military and civilian airport) but I have been advised that a more pleasant and relaxed journey is via Corfu.

Parga has a town beach which isn't worth bothering about. Over a ridge, 1km away is Voltos Beach which is a vast improvement. Voltos is long beach, sandy in some places, pebbly in others, it's well served by tavernas. The beach is quite quiet during the week but gets very busy at weekends with Greek tourists. (If the Greeks go there it must be good!) If your legs can't take it or you're being lazy water taxis also run regularly to a small jetty on Valtos. Alternatively you could take a water taxi 3km in the other direction to Lichnos which is sandy, quiter and prettier (no beach tavernas but one supermarket).

Parga itself is the best place for nightlife. Tavernas and bars are the main focus with the best and cheapest Tavernas at the far end of the town beach. Be warned that the high level of Greek tourism means that bar prices are a bit higher than in the rest of Greece.

All in all good if you like somewhere quite quiet with a bit of nightlife but a bit busy at the weekend if you like something off the beaten track.

Parga is lovely isn't it. Once we discover Voltos, that was it.. no-where else would do. In fact I think a future op may be called for.

I agree with the commetns about the Town Beach.. I did visit there on the last day at 7am for a swim, an I am sure that there was the ruin of some old buildings under the sea, but none of the tourist info mentioned that..

Good op. See you are new to Dooyoo, so welcome. Given a bit more time, could you make it longer, with a bit more of your own "chattiness" added.
