Paxos ... Islands (the Heptanese). In fact in Greek it is a plural form and it refers to a complex of islands, the largest of which are Paxi and Antipaxi (a smaller nearby island famous for its wine, which is almost impossible to purchase in shops or tavernas, and two of the finest sandy beaches in the Ionian Sea). In Greek mythology Poseidon created the island by striking Corfu with his trident, so that he and wife Amphitrite could have some peace and quiet.

Paxos is a beautiful Greek island in the Ionian sea close to Corfu. I visited a few years ago when my family and I chartered a yacht from Corfu. We stayed two nights in Paxos moored in Lakka, the second largest town/village. Getting around the island is difficult unless you hire a car or moped as it is very hilly. The roads are tiny and have many hairpins so drive carefully (I only rode my moped into one ditch!) and try not to get lost in the olive groves! MY FAVOURITE GREEK ISLAND First visited Paxos in 1999 and have been back nearly every year since, sometimes with my family, but on my own twice. It is such a safe welcoming place, that its great for women alone. No hassle or trouble. I think Lakka is the prettiest village, with its sweeping bay, and assortment of beaches, great retaurants/grills and bars, plus a few shops. I always book direct through Routsis holidays, run by George, who arrnges everything, they pick you up at Corfu airport, take you to the ferry and then on to your accomodation. Can't rate them highlly enough. Paxos gets very busy in August, when many Italians visit. This is also the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Paxos: A great place to spend your summer (173 words)

I spent my holidays at Paxos last summer, and I really must say, it was the most beautiful. Being Greek myself, I have travelled throughout most parts of Greece, and I believe that the best places I've ever been to were Paxoi islands and Metsovo village. A small detail is that Paxos is not a single island. Paxoi (plural)are two islands opposite to each other. PAxos is the main island to which most tourists go. It's a fantastic island with a small town and it's guaranteed you're gonna have a great time there. However, if you go, it's a crime not to take the little boat to Antipaxos (the second island) and spend at least ...  Read the complete review

Paxos is a wonderful little island just to the south of Corfu. Boats that really do not qualify as ferries, more like converted fishing boats, take tourists over just for the day, or for a longer stop. Travelling independently I went to Paxos for a few days to relax after over doing things a bit in Ipsos. Locals greet the boats and you can get cheap accommodation when you arrive. I stayed in a small house which the owner used during the winter. In the summer he stayed in a tiny part built house in the garden and rented out his family home. He was using the rentals to fund the building of a larger house. What passes for the main town in ...  Read the complete review

The tiny village of Loggos on the Greek island of Paxos is everything you would wish for. The prettiest village on Paxos is laid back and friendly. Here you can watch the locals bring in their fish at the harbour, gut them on their boats and then take them into their family restaurants ready to be eaten that night. There are six or seven tavernas ranging from meals such as a greek salad and taramosalata for starters followed by moussaka and local wine for around £14 for two or for those desiring a more upmarket meal how about lobster pasta (you can choose your own) with salad and a superior bottle of greek wine for just under £40. The swimming ...  Read the complete review
