Advantages: unspoilt island life

Disadvantages: none!

Paxos is a beautiful Greek island in the Ionian sea close to Corfu. I visited a few years ago when my family and I chartered a yacht from Corfu. We stayed two nights in Paxos moored in Lakka, the second largest town/village. Getting around the island is difficult unless you hire a car or moped as it is very hilly. The roads are tiny and have many hairpins so drive carefully (I only rode my moped into one ditch!) and try not to get lost in the olive groves! There are many tiny coves tucked away around the island which are easily accessible when you have a boat but can be a little trickier to find from land- it usually involves a few hundred meters of very steep and windy gravel track! However, once you have found these Mediterranean gems you will not want to leave! There are many tavernas in Lakka and Gaios (the larger town) which offer fantastic Mediterranean cuisine and as many carafes of Greek wine as you can handle...there is also often Greek dancing on the waterfront which is a fun way to spend the evening and the locals are always very enthusiastic about getting the visitors dancing.

Summary: keep your eye on the ocean- you might spot the dolphins!
