Advantages: Everything!
Disadvantages: a little bit quiet- but thats what we went for
My boyfriend and I booked a trip to Pefkos after being convinced by our Thomas Cook travel agent in Blackburn, who had visited a number of times. We knew we wanted to go somewhere in Greece, and even had thought of Rhodes as one of our options, so we were more than happy to go along with it.
The weeks holiday cost us about £320 each which I thought was a little bit expensive for a late deal (even if it was the beginning of August) however we did fly 2 weeks after we booked it. We chose the late flights to save money so flew at around half 9 at night on saturday 8th august arriving at our hotel at around 5am Greek time (4 hour flight, 2 hour time difference, 1 hour transfer.) The first thing we did was take some pictures of the beautiful sunrise, we had a brilliant view from our apartment.
We stayed at the Lia Apartments which were right next to the Finas Hotel which is probabaly more well known. The Lia was clean and we had 3 single beds in the room, so pushed them all together to make one giant bed! The room was spacious, more so than I expected, and everything was very clean. One day I did find a dead cockroach in the shower, but at least it was dead (!). The maids were very friendly and cleaned up most days. The only problem with this hotel I would say is that there is no reception area, the Thomas Cook rep actually let us in with keys from the coach, however this does eliminate checking in times etc. Our hotel didn't actually have its own pool however there was a pool and snack bar right next to the hotel, and the Finas pool was available to be used too, however this was very busy with children and families. We used the Finas facilities on the last night when we were going home as our flight was not until about 5am :-(
The weather was beautiful everyday and reached about 35 degrees. I am usually a pool girl but the beach is so lovely I spent everyday bar one or two there!! It is around a 10 minute walk from the hotel/main street of Pefkos which is all down hill- bad news when walking back!! I am a healthy 18 year old girl and I found walking home from most places a little difficult! From the main street it was a slight hill, our hotel entrance around 20 metres of serious uphill walking (not good when carrying luggage!) and from the beach some areas were steeper than others. The beach was just one sunbed deep in most places so sometimes harder to get a sunbed, priced at 4 euros each per day. The sea was so blue and clear it was amazing!! As I said i'm not usually one to spend all the time at the beach but I couldn't help it!
The main street of Pefkos was around a 5 minute walk from our apartments. They featured loads of restaurants all priced around the same. What I liked about the restaurants was that they all had the Greek option as well as English dishes, which from the places I've been in Greece was a first! We liked the resaturant Enigma.
As well as restaurants, most buildings were supermarkets as well as travel agents for trips around Rhodes. There was not much else to see.
The trip was just meant for relaxation so we didn't participate in any trip or sightseeing tour. We wanted to spend as little money as possible and ended up spending the whole of our 300 euros that we took however we could have spent a lot less had we decided to! A definite must see are the sunsets everynight, they were so beautiful. Also heard a lot about the towns of Lindos and Largos which are just outside Pefkos that are apparently well worth a visit, especially Lindos.
I would probably go again, but I would like to see a lot more of the world too. I don't really like going to the same place more than once (although I have been to Florida 5 times and Lanzarote 6 times ha!) but would definitley consider Pefkos again, or recommend it to couples of any age (my boyfriend and I are 18 and 22) for a relaxing break.
Summary: a brilliant relaxing holiday
