Advantages: Lots to do

Disadvantages: Batu Ferangi is very beach orientated

Penang is an large island joined to the west coast of Malaya by a causeway. On it you should find something to please everyone. If you want a beach holiday then there are miles of good beaches with plenty of hotels (used by package companies) at Batu Ferangi. There is one long road with the hotels between it and the beach. Along this road there are innumerable reataurants, shops and stalls etc. In fact if you are beach, and water sport orientated you could happily spend the whole holiday here. If you are not then this is probably not the best choice - stay in Georgetown (the island's capital) or another part of Penang.
Penang has plenty to offer besides beaches - snake temple, butterfly park, park with monkeys, pagodas, colonial buildings are all on offer. In Georgetown yo will find plenty of shopping from air conditioned malls to stalls and for those who like to eat .....Forget the diet.
Penag is good for a short break but it would be a shame just to head for the beach.
