Many of them do not speak English but with the help of a phrase book and sign language they are always willing to try and understand and it can be very good fun. About half way between Salou and Valencia lies the small fishing village of Peniscola. The old town is built around a castle on a hill which juts out to sea. (The castle and surrounding area was used for the film El Sid.) Hotel and appartments line one side of the main road overlooking the sea and there is an abundance of street cafe's and shops within the town area. The castle is a bit of a trek to get to, all up hill, but once there the the views down into the old town are fantastic, it is open to the public and there are also gardens to walk around which are very well maintained.
