Phuket ... provinces (changwat) of Thailand. Neighbouring provinces are (from north clockwise) Phang Nga and Krabi, but as Phuket is an island there are no land boundaries. The island is served by Phuket International Airport, located in the north of the island. The ph of "Phuket" is an aspirated "p", so the name is pronounced (roughly) "Poock-get". The name Phuket is apparently derived from the word bukit in Malay which means mountain or hill, as this is what the island appears like from a distance. Before that its old name was Ta-lang (in Thai): The word is derived from the old Malay "Telong" which means "Cape", which is still in use for one of the main districts in the Phuket area.

As with many holiday makers in the UK, I visited Thailand on my trip to East Asia. During my Thailand visit, I stopped at Phuket. This is a famous spot for tourists who like the exotic cities with delicious food. From Phuket, you can also go to see some other stunning places within a stone's throw like Bangkok and other South East Asian cities. --- the BASICS --- Phuket is in the south of Thailand. As there are lots of tourists it is well connected to Bangkok and some planes may even fly directly into the area from regional airports. The area is famous for its stunning beauty and unspoiled beaches. --- PLACES to visit --- The ...  Read the complete review

For my first anniversary my family got together and sent myself and my husband to Thailand, Phuket to be exact. Phuket is an island south of the mainland. The hotel we stayed in was called "Cape Panwa" and we were told that a lot of stars stayed there, however we were not lucky enough to meet any. It was a very impressive hotel, and the decor was lovely. Our room was beautifully decorated and had a balcony which overlooked the beach, which was golden sand and beautiful blue sea. There was nothing better late at night than to just sit there with each other and enjoy our surroundings, especially as the nights set in. The hotel ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cape Panwa Hotel - Phuket (361 words)

Rating:

We spent two weeks at Cape Panwa in the South East of Thailand during March. The Cape Panwa is a very private location away from the main resort areas. The hotel is well appointed with comfortable rooms, excellent service and friendly staff. The beach is very private, quiet and has hotel staff available for assistance. Watersports are available but everyone was too relaxed to bother. Beach bar great and food also provided on the beach. The temperatures were above 36c on most days. We found it too hot for any activities other than Swimming. The hotel has several very good restaurants – however we were booked as B&B and most guests found the local restaurants ...  Read the complete review
