Advantages: Beautiful, friendly, lots to do

Disadvantages: None

For my first anniversary my family got together and sent myself and my husband to Thailand, Phuket to be exact.
Phuket is an island south of the mainland.

The hotel we stayed in was called "Cape Panwa" and we were told that a lot of stars stayed there, however we were not lucky enough to meet any.

It was a very impressive hotel, and the decor was lovely. Our room was beautifully decorated and had a balcony which overlooked the beach, which was golden sand and beautiful blue sea. There was nothing better late at night than to just sit there with each other and enjoy our surroundings, especially as the nights set in.

The hotel knew it was our anniversary and pulled out all the stops to ensure we had a great time, but to be honest I think all visitors are treat like that. When we first got to our room, there was a bottle of champagne on ice and a bouquet of flowers. The staff make it their mission to ensure everything is to your taste.

Apparently 3 months after we were there the cast and crew of "The Beach" stayed here as the island used for filming was nearby. A James Bond film was also filmed nearby but nobody could remember which one.

The food was delicious, I am not a fan of fish, but the Thai fish is something else. The Thai food was anything but bland, quite spicy and very aromatic, and reasonably priced. The chefs made the cooking an art, especially the way the food was displayed.

Patong is an excellent place to visit for some shopping. There are lots of designer goods at knockdown prices, and also a lot of locally manufactured goods.

The weather was okay in September when we were there but we were told that the best time to go December - February.

A truly magical experience and one I cannot wait to repeat.
