Advantages: Great Relaxation - Fantastic Food - Wonderful Experience

Disadvantages: Long journey times - very very hot - bangkok airport!

We spent two weeks at Cape Panwa in the South East of Thailand during March. The Cape Panwa is a very private location away from the main resort areas. The hotel is well appointed with comfortable rooms, excellent service and friendly staff. The beach is very private, quiet and has hotel staff available for assistance. Watersports are available but everyone was too relaxed to bother. Beach bar great and food also provided on the beach. The temperatures were above 36c on most days. We found it too hot for any activities other than Swimming. The hotel has several very good restaurants – however we were booked as B&B and most guests found the local restaurants had the best food at unbelievable prices. £5.00 for a two course meal for two with drinks! Apart from a few local bars there is little outside the Cape Panwa hotel complex, I would recommend the Speedboat trips to Phi Phi Islands. Don’t opt for the larger boat trips, although cheaper they do pack them very full. The Speedboats carry Max 20 People, but are subject to the weather. Our boat stopped at both Phi Phi islands, included snorkelling amongst tropical fish, and 2 hours bathing on a REAL desert Island. The Elephant rides are an experience never to forget. Ask the tour guide for reputable Elephant centres. We chose the short ride into the tropical forest. Hire a Taxi rather than hire your own car. We hired a driver all day for £10.00 – The ones allowed outside the hotel appear genuine and friendly, they will also be willing to show you all the shopping, and sights around the island – including Cobra shows, Jewellery shops, and the obligatory tourist souvenirs. Patong is a few Km across the island but still cheap for Taxi services If you want extra nightlife. Although a good place to visit we preferred the quiet Cape Panwa for relaxation. If you need any other recommendation its worth mentioning that the Thai royal family does occasionally visit the hotel. Do reali
se however that Thai people are very poorly paid in comparison with the UK. dont expect the locals towns etc to look like the UK.
