We spent a week in Pisa in December 2007, and I have no idea why I haven't written anything about this part of Italy before. I fell in love with Pisa after a one-night stand of sorts seven years prior to this last visit, during my first ever trip to Italy in 2000. We stayed one night only and arrived after dark, to depart early in the morning for a Corsica ferry from nearby Livorno. And thus my first view of the Pisan Campo dei Miracoli was a night-time one - the white marble of the wondrous buildings floodlit against the silvery-inky sky, the tat merchants and most of the tourists gone, the square itself quiet, eerie and heart achingly beautiful. The Campo certainly ...  Read the complete review

Just got back from a whistle stop weekend tour of Pisa and Florence and have had an amazing time. Having been to both Rome and Venice knew what to expect with Italy and all the things I love were there in plenty in Tuscany. We flew with Ryanair landing at Pisa's Galileo Galilei airport at around 9 in the morning. The airport is small enough to be through and out within 20 minutes which with only Friday / Saturday to explore two of Italy's great cities was a god send. To get into Pisa we caught a local bus costing 1 Euro. This dropped us at Pisa's main station where we needed to drop of our bags in left luggage. This costs 3 Euros and is safe and reliable. ...  Read the complete review

Pisa has a leaning tower. You must have heard of it. But is there anything else to see to make a visit to Pisa worthwhile? The problem with many cities you might visit in Italy is that there is simply too much to do in one day. Often places of interest within a city are a long distance apart necessitating a long walk or fraught taxi journey during which you miss many sites and views. Pisa however has all its main attractions including the leaning tower in an area no more than 300 metres by 150 metres. You have to say that the leaning tower itself is an extraordinary site. Whilst it is one the most familiar and enduring images of Italy it is also ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Leaning towards Pisa (762 words)

I have just returned from two weeks in Tuscany and in fact my first visit to Italy. The villa my husband and myself were staying in was just less than thirty kilometres from Pisa and so for our first sight seeing day, this is where we decided to go. Pisa is a small University City and is well known for its Leaning Tower. As we discovered, the city has much more to offer though than its famous landmark. It was probably a Greek foundation, later occupied by Etruscans and then the Romans. A 1998 discovery by the State Railway Company unearthed an entire port, complete with jetty, a large fleet of ships, personal items, artefacts and skeletons. The discovery ...  Read the complete review

Last Wednesday a few of my work colleagues and I went along to Pisa for the day, after spotting a bargain on the Ryanair website which involved us paying 2p per ticket with Ryanair and £20 in Airport Tax. Having never been to before this was a first taste of Italy for me and I was especially looking forward to seeing the Leaning Tower in all its glory Pisa is located in Tuscany, still surrounded by its 12-century City Walls on the north bank of the river Arno with just over 100,000 inhabitants. The centre of Pisa is easily accessible from Galileo Galilei Airport, which is about a mile away from the City Centre. The Airport itself has numerous facilities ...  Read the complete review
